Who should attend your consultation?

As a general rule, any one you want to be at your consultation is welcome to attend. This may include your children, grand-children, other family members or friends. On the other hand, the decisions you have to make are personal to you, and you have the right to make them on your own without anyone else's input. If you are attending the consultation on behalf of another family member (for example a parent), please be sure that all the family decision-makers are able to attend. Many complex issues are discussed at the initial consultation, so everyone involved in helping make decisions should be there to hear the information first-hand.

What should you bring to your consultation?

To maximize the use of our time together, please be sure to fill out and bring with you, the simple checklist listing your assets, how they are titled and the current value. In addition, please bring the supporting account and asset documentation, including your real estate tax bill. Also, please bring with you, if possible, copies of any Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Deeds or Trusts already prepared, and your last income tax return, if one was filed. If any significant ($500 or more) gifts or transfers of assets were made within the last five years, please try to find the date and amount of each gift/transfer. If you are considering a Medicaid application, bring with you as many items as possible on the Medicaid checklist. Lastly, please note that there is an initial consultation fee of $350.00. This charge covers the cost of our meeting and payment is requested when you come in.
