Ohio Elder Abuse Lawyers

Many elderly adults depend upon their children, nursing home staff or other caregivers to make important heath and financial decisions on their behalf. Unfortunately, some people take advantage of their position for personal gain. This unacceptable behavior is known as elder abuse, and it must be corrected immediately.

If you or a loved one have been abused by a caregiver, friend or family member, do not be ashamed. We are here to help. At Budish, Solomon, Steiner & Peck, LTD, we are zealous advocates for the rights of the elderly. We will work hard to protect your well-being and to prevent the abuse from occurring again.

Our firm advises victims of elder abuse, as well as family members who suspect their loved one is being abused. Contact us to discuss your case and your legal options.

The Many Forms of Elder Abuse

Elder abuse takes a variety of forms — physical, psychological and financial. A child convinces a mentally incapacitated parent that changing an estate plan is necessary. Neglectful nursing staff fail to turn a resident, resulting in debilitating bed sores (nursing home abuse). A caregiver makes their client feel guilty about leaving them out of a will. In some cases, the abuse may be so subtle that a person does not even realize it is occurring.

We handle cases involving all forms of elder abuse. We strive to hold people fully accountable for their actions and to help ensure that any problems are eliminated. In addition, we direct clients to other resources, such as a counselor or a personal injury lawyer, who can assist them with issues outside of our legal practice.

Altering Wills, Trusts and other Estate Planning Tools

One of the more common signs of abuse is the altering of an estate planning document. However, this may not become evident until after the death of the creator. Did a will eliminate you as a beneficiary? Are trust assets now going to a previously unnamed family member? Our team of probate lawyers will carefully review the situation and fight to correct any illegal actions.
